An Old Town man was arrested in Bangor on Tuesday night after a Maine state trooper found more than a pound of marijuana in his pickup truck.
Harry Soltow, 39, was charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, a felony.
Soltow was stopped by Trooper Michael Johnston about 8:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Stillwater Avenue and Broadway. Soltow did not have a front license plate on his truck, the trooper said Thursday.
While talking with Soltow about the missing plate, Johnston said, he smelled marijuana. Soltow allegedly admitted having a small amount of marijuana and showed the trooper a small plastic bag with a usable amount of the drug.
While searching the vehicle, Johnston found a gallon-size, zip-lock bag full of the drug. It held 16 1/4 ounces of marijuana, according to the trooper.
Soltow was taken to Penobscot County Jail and then released on bail late Tuesday.
He is scheduled to appear in September in Penobscot County Superior Court on the drug trafficking charge.
If convicted, Soltow faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
