Two suspects face charges in OOB slaying

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Two men are facing murder charges in last week’s death of a 45-year-old Old Orchard Beach man who was found dead in his home, police said.

Rennie Cassimy, 47, was arrested Thursday morning outside his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. Police were still searching for Jeffery L. Williams, 44, of West Hempstead, N.Y.

The two face charges in the death of Winston George, who was found dead in his Smithwheel Road house where he lived with his wife and teenage son.

Williams is the brother of George’s wife, Darlene, who is not a suspect in the case, state police Maj. Dale Lancaster said at a news conference. Cassimy was a tenant of the Georges’ who lived in a building they owned.

Police have not revealed the cause of death, a possible motive or the circumstances around the death.

Soon after George’s death was reported around 5:30 a.m. last Friday, his sport utility vehicle was found abandoned at The Captain’s Galley restaurant in Old Orchard Beach.

Cassimy and Williams are believed to have taken a taxi to Portland, where they took a bus at 7:30 a.m. last Friday to New York, Lancaster said.

Cassimy is being held in New York pending an extradition hearing, police said.
