Maine boy, family among contest winners

NEW VINEYARD – A 10-year-old boy has won a trip for his family to a Colorado dude ranch next month by answering the question, “How does Jesus give light to everyone?”

Stephen Brackley, a home-schooled fifth-grader born in Farmington, was one of 12 children around the country that won the trip from the Children’s International Arts Festival. He is the son of Robert and Susan Brackley.

“Jesus spread the light through prophets, such as John,” Stephen wrote in his winning answer. “Now Jesus spreads the light by the Bible and by Christians who preach to the world. Jesus also spread the light when he came to Earth; he exposed the light to the darkness. The light is righteousness, and the darkness is unrighteousness.”

The family will vacation July 20-27, at the Tarryall River Ranch in Lake George, Colo., where they will have opportunities to ride horses in the high country, go river rafting through Brown’s Canyon and fish for trout in the Tarryall River, according to a press release.

To enter the festival and become eligible for a dude ranch vacation prize, children ages 5 through 12 are asked to answer Bible questions and to illustrate their answers. The contest is open until March 31, 2009. Entry forms can be downloaded at www.Kids
