PORTLAND – It’s going to get costlier to ride a taxi in Maine’s largest city.
As of July 1, Portland’s taxi fares will increase for the first tenth of a mile to $1.90, and to 30 cents for each additional tenth of a mile.
City officials say fares from the Portland Jetport will also rise to a minimum of $5 or the amount on the meter at the end of the trip, whichever is greater. Taxi fares were last increased four years ago.
The city reminds passengers to use licensed taxis, which must have a meter, a taxi light on the roof, fares painted on the doors and the driver’s license and photo displayed.
