Shania, born in 1998, has a cute personality. She loves baby dolls, doing arts and crafts, going on nature walks and going to the beach. She swims frequently and loves to be read to.

Shania is very nurturing and thrives with one-on-one attention from adults. She enjoys taking pictures and is proud to show them off. Shania loves macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and cheese pizza. Her favorite colors are pink and purple. Shania hopes to visit Disney World one day to see the Disney characters.

Shania receives special education services in school. She says math is her favorite subject. She has repeated grade levels before and will continue to need support throughout her schooling. During a field trip in the fall to an apple farm she learned how to press apples into apple juice. She even got to take some apples home with her, a real treat.

Shania wants a mom and a dad to take care of her. She also would like to have younger siblings in her forever home. Due to her high level special needs, the best family for Shania will provide a consistent and structured environment for her. Adoptive parent(s) with a background in behavior management would be helpful. An adoption subsidy may be available for the most appropriate family.

Shania is one of 147 children in Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care. For information about children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME toll free at 877-505-0545 or visit www.AFamilyForMe.org and the gallery of photographs of children awaiting a “forever family.”
