Driver inattention blamed for collision

Two vehicles involved in a collision on Union Street on Saturday morning had significant damage, according to Sgt. Paul Kennison of the Bangor Police Department. Kennison said driver inattention caused Lonnie Gould, 52, of Greenville Junction to run a red light near the airport and crash his 1999 Ford Sedan into a 2005 Toyota sedan driven by 59-year-old Carol Arnold of Bangor. Kennison said the police report did not indicate whether either driver was injured, but the Ford had an estimated $3,500 in damage, and the estimate for the Toyota was $4,000. The accident happened at about 8:45 a.m. (Meg Haskell, BDN)

A Hammond Street collision Saturday afternoon sent one driver to the hospital, according to Sgt. Paul Kennison of the Bangor Police Department. Kennison said a 1999 Saturn driven by 45-year-old Deborah Forti of Bangor was rear-ended by a 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 36-year-old Timothy McCann, also of Bangor, when Forti slowed down near the West Broadway intersection. Forti suffered a “possible neck injury” and was taken to an area hospital, Kennison said. McCann hit his head on the windshield but denied treatment. The accident took place at about 2 p.m. (Meg Haskell, BDN)

A Bangor juvenile was arrested Sunday evening and charged with criminal use of explosives. Sgt. Jim Buckley of the Bangor Police Department said no one was injured when the 16-year-old male set off a homemade explosive device in the Second Street Park behind Shaw’s on Main Street at about 6 p.m. A neighbor notified police of the incident and the youth was arrested, Buckley said. He later was released to his mother on conditions of bail. (Meg Haskell, BDN)
