Single-moms series a new turn for TLC

The Fourth of July is all about freedom, and that’s exactly what TLC is giving a group of single moms in its new “Bachelorette”-like show.

As these single moms jump back into the difficult world of dating, the most important part for them is finding someone who loves their kids as much as they do, and it appears to be more difficult than it sounds.

The biggest problem right now is that I can’t find the show on TLC’s Web site and I forgot to write down the airdate when I heard it during a commercial for the show earlier this week.

Stay tuned and when I come across it, I’ll be sure to list it on the Reality Bytes blog at www.bangor

dailynews.com.

From the preview, it looks like a somewhat scary speed-dating situation where each mom is placed in a room with several males with potential. She then narrows down her choices until she finds a possible match.

Although it’s probably better than finding a potential stepdad for your child or children in a bar, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable playing out my dating life on national television. But then again, that’s what reality TV is all about. Everyone gets a shot at 15 seconds of fame and becomes a superstar overnight.

Besides, the concept sounds interesting and a little different for TLC, which has stuck mainly to reality TV regarding fashion and important life events with shows such as “Bringing Home Baby,” and “Say Yes to the Dress.”

Speaking of fashion, don’t forget today’s “What Not to Wear” marathon on TLC, providing fashion freedom on the Fourth for all those stuck in faux pas fashion ruts. The marathon starts at 9 a.m. and runs until you can’t take any more of Stacy and Clinton.

Looking for something a little different? There’s a lot coming up this month since reality TV has gotten rid of the idea that summer is for reruns.

At 8 p.m. July 10, check out ABC’s “Greatest American Dog” that will net the top dog and its owner $250,000.

If it’s trashy summer TV you’re looking for, check out VH1’s “I Love Money,” which follows 17 former “Flavor of Love,” “I Love New York” and “Rock of Love” contestants on a quest to get rich quick. The show airs at 9 p.m. July 13. Have fun, because this is one that even I won’t waste my time with.
