KITTERY – The Coast Guard cutter Reliance has a new commander.
Cmdr. Gregory Burg took charge of the 210-foot ship Tuesday in a change-of-command ceremony at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He replaced Cmdr. Webster Balding, who held the post for two years.
Burg comes to Maine from California, where he was assistant chief of law enforcement for the Coast Guard district.
Balding heads to Washington, D.C., where he will serve as special adviser in the office of Homeland Security.
