7 Maine boxers sweep bouts against Canadians

WESTVILLE, Nova Scotia – Seven Maine boxers swept a set of fights against a Canadian team in a competition Friday.

Dalton McGovern of Skowhegan won a split decision over Brandon Halef of Sackville, Nova Scotia, in the junior novice bantamweight category.

Junior novice flyweight Owen Crowzey of Stockton Springs, senior nice middleweight Ben Dunham of Stockton Springs, senior novice middleweight Ben Dunham of Stockton Springs, senior open class lightweight Liz Leddy of Portland, junior open class superlightweight Casey Kramlich of Portland and senior open class middleweight Russell Lamour of Portland all won by unanimous decisions.

Senior open class light heavyweight Keith Derrig of Portland won in a walkover, while U.S. Golden Gloves flyweight champ Jorge Abiague of Portland had to drop out after he suffered a broken right hand in the last day of training before the competition.

Lamour was named the event’s Outstanding Boxer.
