CARIBOU – The deadline for individuals in Aroostook and Penobscot counties to file for disaster assistance related to Maine’s spring flooding is today.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration already have handed out $4.5 million in assistance for individuals, businesses and local governments after flooding that damaged hundreds of homes and displaced more than 1,000 people.
Several counties were declared disaster areas, but Aroostook and Penobscot were the only ones where individuals can apply for assistance.
A FEMA spokesman said individuals in those two counties can apply through today by either calling 800-621-FEMA or registering online at www.fema.gov.
