Danforth HRs lead Hampden Junior stars

BANGOR – Ashley Danforth hit a two-run home run, her third homer of the contest, to snap a fifth-inning tie lift Hampden to a 9-7 victory over Glenburn in a District 3 Junior League softball all-star game on Thursday.

Danforth also belted a two-run homer in the second inning and slammed a three-run shot in the third to finish with seven RBIs. Kylee Fogg doubled and Katheryn Gilio hit an RBI single to back wining pitcher Kristi Melanson.

Sami Schultz paced Glenburn, which was eliminated, with a run-scoring triple and two singles. Jessica Bradford singled twice with two RBIs.

At Calais, Rachel Cundiff scattered four hits while giving up five runs and striking out nine to help Calais defeat Ellsworth.

Allison Hill paced Calais with a double and triple and Brandy Carle added a double.

Cristin Wright singled twice for Ellsworth and Nicole Austin and Rebecca Gray each doubled.

Glenburn, Holbrook advance

At Bangor West, Glenburn edged Brewer 15-14 and Holbrook defeated Millinocket in elimination games.

Glenburn scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to rally for its win while Holbrook rallied with 11 runs in the fifth inning for its victory.

Both Glenburn and Holbrook advanced to Sunday’s round with Glenburn playing at 2 p.m. and Holbrook at noon.

Bucksport I 19, Acadian I 3

At Bar Harbor, Bucksport I took advantage of 19 walks, including 10 in the 13-run fourth inning, as it cruised past Acadian I.

Tyler Pye, Hayden Craig and Tyler Hayes each hit a single for Bucksport I.

Tanner Bickford, Graddy Dobbs, Simon Hulbert and Darnell Saravong each posted a single for Acadian I.

At Bucksport, John Lapoint knocked in five runs with a triple and two singles to back the no-hit pitching of Daniel McPhee, who struck out 11 in four innings.

Kyle Johnson posted an inside-the-park home run and a double with three RBIs for the winners, while Keegan Newman singled twice with two RBIs.

At Machias, Kade Feeney tripled, singled, drove in three runs and scored three to help Machias prevail.

Bryce Bourque chipped in with a double and single and scored four runs for Machias while Cameron Varney singled twice, had three RBIs and scored five runs.

Mac Shea doubled, singled and had two RBIs for Acadian II.

At Brewer, Matt Pushard drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Seth Pearson for the game-winning run and lift Brewer past Holbrook.

Jared St. Thomas tallied two singles, a double and an RBI while Pearson hit three singles. Tyler Davis doubled and singled with an RBI while Jacob Currier had two singles and an RBI for Brewer.

Joseph Archambault posted three singles and an RBI for Holbrook. Ryan Ward had two singles and two RBIs while David Peters and Justin Gagne each added two singles with an RBI.

At Ellsworth, Jake Maguire hit two singles and a triple with five RBIs to spark Ellsworth by Acadian.

Brian Jones hit two singles and a solo home run and Mike Brooks had two singles for Ellsworth.

John Phelps hit a two-run home run and a single for Acadian. Adam Ranco had a solo home run and Bailey York added two singles.

At Lincoln, Nick Ashey hit a two-run home run and a solo home run in an eight-run third inning to power Bangor East by Lincoln.

Rye Powell doubled and singled with three RBIs. Justin Courtney hit two singles with an RBI and Brendan Moore had a triple for Bangor East.

A.J. MacEachern hit a double and a single and Garrett Neal had an RBI single for Lincoln.

At Old Town, John Collins smacked a solo home run, an RBI double and a single to lift Holbrook to victory.

Shawn Curran chipped in with a two-run double.

Adam Richardson doubled, singled and drove in a run for Old Town. Zack Miller had a double and a two-run home run while Dakota Leathers added a double.

At Machias, Machias rallied back from an 18-4 deficit with 18 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat Acadian.

Nick Pineo doubled and singled with three RBIs while Dustin Getchell hit two singles with two RBIs. Andrew Hall had a triple and two RBIs while Jared Cline doubled with two RBIs for Machias.

Robbie Logue and Trevor Alley each hit three singles for Acadian. Brady Bowden had two singles while Seth Vandergrift added a triple.

At Hampden, Gabe Melmed tallied four singles and an RBI to lead Old Town by Glenburn in eight innings.

David Wilcox posted a triple and a single with two RBIs for Old Town. Andrew Richardson hit two singles while Dan Gastia added a two-run single.

Zeb Tuell and Nick Sherwood each hit two singles while Tyler Omlor had a two-run single for Glenburn.

At Bordick Park in Hampden, righthander Connor Perry allowed only three hits in five innings and also contributed two RBIs to help Hampden beat Brewer.

Perry struck out eight and walked only one. He smacked a two-run double in Hampden’s seven-run third inning and finished with two doubles and a single.

Jeddy Doyon chipped in with an RBI triple for Hampden and Logan Stewart and Patrick Dunn each added RBI singles.

Spencer Valley singled twice for Brewer and Kyle Alexander added an RBI single.
