Dexter woman stabs man with steak knife

A Charleston man called for help Wednesday night after his former girlfriend used a knife to stab him in the hand during a fight, Sgt. Bill Birch of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Alicia Rickard, 22, a transient who is listed with a Dexter address, allegedly used a steak knife to injure the 42-year-old victim. The man refused medical treatment, Birch said.

Police were unable to find Rickard on Wednesday night in Charleston, but Dexter Police Chief Arthur Roy caught up with her Thursday morning.

Rickard was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and taken to Penobscot County Jail. She was released on bail Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court in Newport on Sept. 10. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

A pedestrian who admitted to police he had been drinking was struck by a car Thursday morning in downtown Bangor.

David Bryant, 51, of Bangor was attempting to cross State Street around 9:45 a.m. when a 2002 Subaru SUV driven by Vernon Haynes, 55, also of Bangor, hit him. Bryant was not in a crosswalk.

“The vehicle was turning left to State Street and the pedestrian was walking west on State Street,” Bangor police Lt. Jeff Millard said. “He almost made it to the other side, and then got struck.”

Millard said the officer who responded, Jason Linkletter, smelled alcohol on Bryant, who admitted to drinking. The man suffered minor head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, police said.

Haynes’ vehicle had about $500 in front-end damage, according to Millard, which is expected to be covered by the man’s insurance.

Neither Bryant nor Haynes was charged. (Tim Devaney, BDN)
