FairPoint offers access to high-speed Internet

PORTLAND – More than 31,000 additional FairPoint Communications customers across Maine now have access to high-speed Internet service, the company announced Thursday.

The overall expansion project included equipping 20 central switching centers and 68 remote terminal locations in Maine with high-speed broadband technology, FairPoint said. The company’s high-speed Internet service is powered by broadband technology that carries high-bandwidth information to the home.

“FairPoint is committed to expanding Internet access throughout northern New England,” said Peter Nixon, president of FairPoint Communications.

FairPoint said the following communities received expanded high-speed Internet availability as part of the expansion project: Acton, Arundel, Auburn, Bangor, Bar Harbor, Belgrade, Biddeford, Boothbay Harbor, Bowdoinham, Brewer, Brooklin, Brooksville, Brownville, Brunswick, Columbia, Cumberland, Danforth, Dark Harbor, Dedham, Detroit, Durham, Eddington, Fairfield, Falmouth, Farmington, Franklin, Freeport, Frenchville, Georgetown, Glenburn, Great Cranberry Island, Greene, Gouldsboro, Hiram, Houlton, Jefferson, Jonesport, Kennebunk, Lebanon, Lewiston, Lubec, Mexico, Monhegan Island, Monroe, Monson, North Haven, North Sanford, North Whitefield, North Yarmouth, Norway, Ogunquit, Orono, Paris, Pembroke, Phippsburg, Porter, Portland, Pownal, Saco, St. Agatha, Scarborough, Sedgwick, Shapleigh, South Portland, Sullivan, The Forks, Topsfield, Topsham, Tremont, Vanceboro, Wayne, Wells, West Bath, Westbrook, Westport Island, Whitefield, Windsor, Wiscasset, Woolwich and York.
