AUGUSTA – A Kentucky woman had an excuse when she was stopped by a Maine state trooper because she watching a TV show while driving on Interstate 95.

The motorist told the trooper she was watching “Gilmore Girls” on her laptop computer to stay awake, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Safety.

“She told the trooper that she was tired,” McCausland said Friday. “Her remedy for keeping awake was to watch the latest episode with Rory and Lorelai.”

The motorist, who was not identified, did not receive a citation for her actions. Maine law prohibits people from watching television while driving, but the statute is vague when it comes to other electronic components such as a computer, McCausland said.
