Hampden rallies for title Junior all-stars force 2nd game, score 7 in 6th inning

BANGOR – Hampden erased a 7-2 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Old Town 9-7 in the championship game of the District 3 Junior League All-Star softball ball tourney Friday.

Hampden topped Old Town 6-5 in an earlier game to force the second game.

In the first game, Kathryn Gilio hit a two-run single and Ashley Danforth had an RBI single for Hampden.

Brianna Shirland and Mckayla Gastia hit two singles apiece while Megan Cousins and Ashley England each had an RBI single for Old Town.

In the championship game, Olivia Dahlberg and Gilio each hit an RBI double in the seven-run sixth inning. Olivia Plaisted had a two-run home run and a triple while Ashley Danforth hit two singles with an RBI for Hampden.

Suzie Outman smacked a home run and Kaitlin Goodwin added a double for Old Town.

Hermon 37, Glenburn-Levant 4

At Orrington, Amber Chasse hit a solo homer to go with three singles and a double as Hermon prevailed in a four-inning game.

Allessa Oakes had four singles and a double and Claire Patterson two singles and two doubles for 1-0 Hermon.

Casey Whitney singled for 0-1 Glenburn-Levant.

Baseball

District 3, 10-11

Bangor East 10, Brewer 6

At Brewer, Marcus McCue tallied a triple, a single and two RBIs to highlight a seven-run first inning as Bangor East eliminated Brewer.

Sam Huston had a triple and a single with two RBIs while Matt Duff posted a double and a single with an RBI. Andrew Hillier hit a two-run double and Liam Harrigan added an RBI double for Bangor East.

Chris Hudson hit three singles with two RBIs for Brewer. Bryce Porter had two doubles and an RBI while Jaycob Bowker hit a double with two RBIs.

At Ellsworth, Megan Hunt pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to spark Ellsworth by Calais.

Heather Holt tripled and doubled with three RBIs. Sam Boothby hit two singles with an RBI while Brianna Reardon had a two-run double for Ellsworth.

Katie Cundiss and Paige Gillespie each hit a single for Calais.

At Harrington, reliever Drake Morrow recorded the last three outs with the potential tying run at second base as Calais held on for the win.

Sunrise’s Matt Moore had tripled and scored on a double by Kameron Jordan, but that’s where the rally ended.

Joe Mitchell paced Calais with a two-run single in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third. Jesse Clark doubled, hit an RBI triple in the fourth and scored the eventual winning run.

Jeremy Beers stroked a double and three singles, while Morrow singled twice with an RBI.

Jordan led Sunrise with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Moore also doubled while Brendan Tenney hit a two-run home run.

Ellsworth 2, Acadian 1

At Bar Harbor, Andrew Hodge doubled in a run to lead Ellsworth past Acadian.

Seth Cote and Ben Curtis added singles for the winners.

Nolan Hall led Acadian with three singles and an RBI.
