Hampden police seek suspects in attempted theft

Police in Hampden are looking for two people who attempted to steal a catalytic converter off a vehicle at Crawford’s Import Auto on Cold Brook Road early Monday morning. Officer Ben Eyles of the Hampden Police Department said Monday that a video recorder on the premises captured two individuals attempting to cut through the vehicle’s exhaust pipe at abut 2:15 a.m. Monday. “They got halfway through and stopped,” he said. A thief stole about 65 gallons or $300 worth of heating oil from a delivery truck in Bangor sometime over the weekend. The Pelkey Fuel truck was parked in a lot on Birch Street, according to Sgt. James Hodges of the Bangor Police Department. The theft was reported Monday afternoon. The incident is under investigation. (Meg Haskell, BDN)

Maine State Police have no leads in the theft late Friday night or early Saturday morning of five solar-powered landscaping lights from a private home on Main Road in Eddington. Trooper Michael Johnston said the aluminum lamps may have been stolen for their scrap metal value. Police will circulate photos of the lamps to area scrap dealers in hope of identifying the thieves.
