Bangor East advances to title round All-stars to battle unbeaten Millinocket for District 3 championship

BANGOR – Bangor East scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to eliminate Hampden 5-3 Tuesday and advance to today’s championship round in the Little League All-Star baseball tourney for ages 11-12.

Bangor East hosts undefeated Millinocket at 5:30 p.m. in the double-elimination tourney. A Bangor East win forces another game on Thursday, while a Millinocket win gives it the title as it beat Bangor East earlier in the tourney in Millinocket.

Brendan Moore sparked Tuesday’s rally with a two-run homer. He also doubled in a run earlier in the contest.

Matt Martin hit a two-run homer and solo shot for Hampden.

Calais 14, Coastal 8

At Blue Hill, Daniel McPhee, John LaPointe and Keegan Newman scattered six hits and struck out 14 as Calais eliminated Coastal.

Kyle Johnson and William Geiro had a double and two singles apiece for the winners and LaPointe had three singles.

Spencer Johnson finished with two singles and McPhee doubled.

Joe Pal tripled and singled for Coastal and William Ricker had a pair of singles.

Houlton 5, Bangor West 4

At Bangor, Ryan Dee hit a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh, took second on a passed ball scored the winning run on a Nick Cowperthwaite single to lead Houlton past Bangor West.

Houlton scored all of its runs in the fifth inning on wild pitches and passed balls to tie it at 4-4.

Dee singled four times and scored two runs for Houlton. Cowperthwaite added a single and Garrett Putnam singled and scored a run.

Kyle Stevenson singled and scored two runs to lead Bangor West. Sam Putnam singled and scored a run.

Bucksport 10, Calais 3

At Bucksport, Ryan Bailey doubled, singled and drove in two runs as Bucksport won the District 1 title.

James Potter doubled and knocked in three runs for Bucksport. Tyler McAllian singled three times, Billy Deredin hit two more and Cody Davis doubled.

Joe Mitchell led Calais with a double, single and an RBI. Tommy Collins tripled and Jeremy Beers doubled.

Brewer 10, Old Town 1

At Bordick Park in Hampden, Matt Morrow doubled, singled and drove in three runs to help lead Brewer past Old town.

Nick Moore hit a triple and a single to knock in two runs for Brewer. Zach Violette had two singles and a double.

Jared Winchenbach doubled and singled to lead eliminated Old Town. Tyler Alexander added an RBI single.

Bangor 12, Orono-Veazie 2

At Bordick Park in Hampden, Christian Corneil hit a two-run triple in the first inning to lift Bangor over Orono-Veazie.

Anthony Capuano had two singles and two RBIs for Bangor and Dylan Morris hit an RBI single.

Orono-Veazie’s Josh Storgaard hit an RBI single and Nick Cota singled and scored a run.

Lincoln 31, Orrington 22

At Orrington, Lincoln pushed across 13 runs in the top of the sixth to eliminate Orrington.

Cheyenne Libby and Emily Page recorded five singles apiece and Catlyn Lyons two for the winners. Lyons notched 10 strikeouts in earning the pitching win.

Katie Wood hit a two-run homer, solo homer, double and single to pace Orrington. Caitlyn Abbott added four singles and Brianna Reed three.
