Amoroso lifts Hampden by Brewer

BREWER – Derek Amoroso scattered five hits and worked around six walks Thursday night as Hampden knocked off league-leading Brewer 5-2 in a Zone 1 American Legion baseball game at Heddericg Field.

Amoroso struck out seven while going the distance.

Cody Johndro smacked a two-run single in the sixth inning to give Hampden some breathing room. Shawn Smith singled twice.

Prentiss Swett had two singles for Brewer, while Chris Maguire posted a single with an RBI. Eric White singled and scored two runs.

Bangor 8, Calais 0

At Calais, Gordie Webb cranked a two-run home run in the sixth inning and a two-run triple in the first as Bangor blanked Calais.

Chad Kelley and Dylan Morris each singled twice and Shane Walton doubled for the Comrades behind Kyle Savage and Zane Gray, who combined on a six-hit shutout.

Tim Barnes hit two singles for Calais.

Trenton 5, Penquis 4

At Blue Hill, Ebb Walton’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh inning supplied the Trenton Acadians with their 12th victory of the summer.

Nick Saunders doubled and singled for the winners.

Scott Kelley singled in a run while Danny Kane singled and scored three times for Penquis.

At Husson College in Bangor, Ryan Carr singled in a run in the bottom of the ninth as Motor City rallied for the extra-inning triumph.

Charlie Merritt’s two-run single sparked a four-run rally in the seventh which tied the game for the winners. He finished with four singles and four RBIs while Casey Hull and Andrew Casey added two singles each.

Jason Smith hit a two-run homer for Orono. Dana Leland singled in two runs and tripled.
