Rustic life results in ‘Runway’ strife

While there are many positive aspects to living in the country like the Man on the Couch and I do, there are also drawbacks. When the sky is clear, it looks like you could reach out and touch the stars. My neighbors are far enough away that they can’t peek to see what I’m cooking for dinner or what my jammies look like.

On the flip side, technology isn’t always top-notch. I was VERY disappointed that my attempts to watch Wednesday night’s premiere of the fifth season of “Project Runway” on Bravo were foiled by my satellite signal, which refused to work on anything but local channels.

I kept trying to tune in and was told more than once that my satellite signal had been lost. How does it get lost? It knew how to get to my house before, but Wednesday night it lost its map.

Fortunately, Bravo has a top-notch Web site that allowed me to catch up and get the gist of the first episode so that if my dish ever decides to return, I won’t be completely out of the loop.

Here’s a quick rundown:

Tim Gunn called this season’s group of designers the most diverse crew ever to hit “Project Runway,” and wasted no time assigning them their first challenge. With guest judge Austin Scarlett on the scene, the contestants had to use unconventional materials to create an outfit.

Jerry got booted for designing something that “looked suspiciously like something that Christian Bale would have worn in ‘American Psycho,'” according to judge Michael Kors’ blog. I’d love to tell you I agreed, but without seeing it firsthand, you’ll have to wait until next week for my top three picks.

In more local reality news, the episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” shot in Milbridge is scheduled for a second airing. The Ray-Smith family episode will be shown again at 9 p.m. Sunday, July 20, after the 8 p.m. Part One series premiere of “High School Musical: Get in the Picture.”

Hosted by none other than Nick Lachey, the Disney reality show (yes, Disney is in the reality circuit) will award one contestant the opportunity to star in a music video shown in the end credits of the feature film, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” opening this fall. The winner also will receive an exclusive talent hold agreement with ABC and a recording contract for two singles with Walt Disney Records, one of which will be a version of the song from the music video.

The family-friendly show runs at 9 p.m. Sundays and Mondays for three weeks, then continues at 8 p.m. Mondays through mid-September.
