BANGOR – Holbrook pushed across five runs in the bottom of the first inning after Katahdin Valley had scored three in the top of the inning and they cruised from there to a 12-4 District 3 Senior League baseball tournament victory at Mansfield Stadium Friday.

BANGOR – Holbrook pushed across five runs in the bottom of the first inning after Katahdin Valley had scored three in the top of the inning and they cruised from there to a 12-4 District 3 Senior League baseball tournament victory at Mansfield Stadium Friday.

Nick Christie collected two doubles and three RBIs for the winners while Garrett Gonzales singled twice to knock in two runs. Kyle Senter added two singles.

Dakota Sleeper had two singles and an RBI for Katahdin Valley, which was eliminated.

At Glenburn, Alyssa Williamson pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts to power Scarborough by Hermon.

Marissa O’Toole hit a triple, a single and drove in a run for Scarborough.

Kennebunkport 9, Calais 8

At Glenburn, Molly LaPointe hit two singles, a double and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth as Kennebunk defeated Calais in a game called after four innings because of rain.

Carinn Burns hit an inside-the-park home run while Catherine Galligan added a double for Kennebunkport.

Paige Gillespie hit a two run single for Calais. Mallorie Black had two singles while Megan Cavanaugh added an RBI double.

Saco 3, Hampden 1

At Calais, Saco’s Chrissy Remmes survived eight walks by throwing a no-hitter to outduel Hampden’s Ashley Danforth, who fired a one-hitter.

The five-team, double-elimination tournament resumes today with District 1 champ Calais taking on District 2 winner Rockland at 11 a.m. and District 4 winner Saco facing District 6 victor Falmouth at 4.

On Sunday, District 3 champ Hampden plays an elimination game against the Calais-Rockland loser at 11 with Saturday’s winners squaring off at 4.

In Friday’s game, Saco’s Kristin Duross reached on an error and scored an unearned run to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning.

Remmes struck out 11 while Danforth struck out 10 and didn’t walk anybody.

Mary Brown had the game’s only hit, a sixth-inning single, and she wound up scoring an insurance run.

Danforth scored the Hampden run by stealing home as she positioned herself between third and home and broke to the plate on catcher Jenny Scontras’ throw to third to try to pick her off.
