Ellsworth takes Sr. state crown Bangor, Hampden post victories

BANGOR – The Ellsworth Senior League All-Stars defeated Sacopee Valley twice to capture the state baseball championship at Mansfield Stadium on Saturday, winning the first game 3-1 and cruising 10-1 in the second.

They advance to the East Regional tournament in West Deptford, N.J., where they will open play at 8 p.m. Aug. 2 against the winner of the previous night’s game between Massachusetts and New Jersey.

In the second game, Seth Cote struck out 11 in a complete-game, two-hit effort, allowing one unearned run. He aided his cause with a two-run double in the sixth to spearhead a six-run rally.

Mickey Manning added a two-run double in the frame. Brad Folmer singled three times while Jordan Carter had two singles (RBI) and Andrew Austin two singles and two RBIs.

Duncan Mixer and Stuart Ahern singled for Sacopee.

In the first game, Andrew Hodge allowed one run on four hits and struck out eight in six-plus innings to get the win for Ellsworth.

Nate Dublin had two singles and an RBI and Folmer two singles and a run scored.

Heath Howell doubled for Sacopee Valley.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Jared Stevens allowed no earned runs on six hits while striking out five in six innings to lead Hampden to the win.

Jonathan Johnson had a pair of singles for the winners.

Jake Stoddard doubled in a run for Old Town, which was eliminated.

Bangor 12, Brewer 6

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Nate Lewis singled twice to knock in two runs to lead Bangor past Brewer Sunday.

Joe Stanewicz tripled and singled (2 RBIs) while Jacques Larochelle had three singles and an RBI for Bangor.

Nick Risser singled in two runs while Brandon Gendreau singled in another for Brewer.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, Jeremy Leong hit an RBI triple and Justin Rodgerson an RBI single to spark a three-run fifth inning as Hampden took the lead for good and ousted Holbrook.

Kyle Senter led Holbrook with a double, single and two RBIs. Nick Christie and Ray Bessette added two singles apiece.

At Bangor West, Ryan Brookings pitched a four-inning shutout as Bangor East triumphed.

Ben Crichton had two singles and Ryan Brookings a double for the winners.

Parker Brewer had a double for Houlton.

Ellsworth 14, Calais 4

At Calais, Ellsworth scored seven runs in the fifth inning to break it open to defeat Calais and win the championship Sunday.

The game started on Saturday but lasted only 31/2 innings before a thunder storm postponed the game to Sunday. Because of the delay, Saturday’s starting pitchers could not pitch on Sunday.

Conor Maguire hit two doubles and a triple for Ellsworth. Dakota Chipman tripled, doubled and singled while Hunter Cote and Andrew Jones both singled twice.

Kyle Johnson singled and scored a run for Calais. Daniel McPhee and Ryan Howell singled.

Camden-Rockport wins two

At Lebanon, District 2 champ Camden-Rockport recorded two victories in the state tourney with a 7-3 win over District 3 champ Bangor East Saturday and a 5-0 win over District 5 champ Auburn Suburban on Sunday.

Camden-Rockport advanced to a 6 p.m. Tuesday game against the District 6 champ.

Bangor East and District 1 champ Down East Family YMCA will battle in an elimination game today at 6 p.m. as the District 6 champ beat Ellsworth 4-1 on Saturday.

Softball

State Tournament, 11-12

Auburn 11, Calais 1

At Glenburn, Ashlee Arnold singled twice and knocked in a run to help lead Auburn past Calais Saturday.

Kennedy Hubbard doubled for Auburn and Tiana Harriman had a single and an RBI.

Paige Gillespie singled and drove in the run to lead Calais.

At Glenburn, Kristen Wilcox doubled and singled with two RBIs to give Hermon the win over Camden Saturday.

Amanda Allen singled three times for Hermon. Gabby Bryant, Quincie McCluskey and Katie Reynose each had a single and an RBI.

Camden’s Natalie Himalanian singled to knock in a run.

At Glenburn, Erin Giles allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 10 to lead Scarborough to the shutout win over Kennebunk Saturday.

Shannon Mars doubled with two RBIs to pace Scarborough and Giles added two singles and two RBIs.

Carinn Burns doubled for Kennebunk’s lone hit.

At Glenburn, Auburn scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break the 7-7 tie and defeat Hermon Sunday.

Ashlee Arnold doubled and singled with an RBI for Auburn. Kennedy Hubbard singled three times. Amanda Williams and Bayley Aberdroth both doubled with an RBI.

Gabby Bryant doubled and singled for Hermon. Kristen Wilcox added a single and an RBI.

At Orrington, Cordelia Stewart pitched a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts as Bangor triumphed Saturday.

Skylar Cassum singled twice and doubled and Stewart contributed a pair of singles for the winners.

Hermon 13, Old Town 9

At Orrington Saturday, Hermon scored five times in the fourth and four more in the fifth to rally from a 9-1 deficit and eliminate Old Town.

Claire Peterson had two singles and a double with Deanna Phipps and Alyssa Oakes each adding two singles for Hermon.

Emma Cyr, Micheala Milton and Kara Hussey singled for Old Town.

At Orrington Sunday, Hermon raced out to a four-run lead after the first inning en route to the four-inning victory.

Winning pitcher Alyssa Oakes, who pitched a two-hitter, doubled along with Amber Chasse and Alexis Hafford for Hermon.

Emily Reilly doubled and Laura MacDougall singled for Bangor.
