PORTLAND – The start of the new work week is bringing lower gasoline prices to Maine for a change.
According to AAA, which tracks fuel prices nationwide, a gallon of unleaded in Maine was averaging under $4.10 on Monday. That’s down nearly a nickel from the record high of $4.14 set last Wednesday.
Many stations across Maine began selling gas for under $4 a gallon over the weekend. In Hermon, motorists waited in long lines when one station lowered its price to $3.89 a gallon.
AAA says the average price of gas nationally was about $4.07 a gallon, down about 4 cents since it peaked last Thursday.
