KITTERY – A Maine-based Coast Guard cutter has seized 10,000 pounds of cocaine while on patrol in the Caribbean.
The Cutter Tahoma, home-ported in Kittery, found the cocaine with a street value of more than $100 million while searching a 120-foot Honduran-flagged vessel south of Jamaica last month. The seven crew members on the vessel were detained and handed over to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
The drugs seized by the Tahoma were offloaded Monday in Miami. The seizure was one of three during a four-day period in late June by U.S. and British patrols.
