BANGOR – The city’s Orthodox synagogue Saturday will hold an international seminar designed to help secular Jews become more observant.
Aish HaTorah’s Discovery Seminar will begin at 11:45 a.m. with lunch at Beth Abraham, 145 York St., and continue through the afternoon.
Jews and non-Jews who want to learn more about the religion are invited to attend.
The seminar is a project of Aish International and is designed to answer these questions:
. Is blind faith required for Judaism?
. How have Jews survived through time?
. Has the text of the Torah changed over the millennia?
. Does God control history ?
. Is there really a secret code in the Torah?
One of the goals of the program, according to Aish International’s Web site, is for attendees to discover that Judaism has the tools for enhancing self-esteem, personal power and enjoyment of life.
The Discovery Seminar has been translated into Russian, German Hebrew, Spanish and French.
Aish HaTorah is a nonprofit Jewish education group based in New York City in the United States. Two trainers from New York are expected to facilitate the Bangor seminary
The Bangor seminar is co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Endowment Fund.
