Classmates sought for eighth-grade reunion

Here is news from Paula Carson Charette about a rather unusual type of reunion.

The eighth-grade class of 1968 of Woodland Consolidated School in Aroostook County “is planning a 40th class reunion for Aug. 30,” Charette wrote.

“We have some missing classmates and are asking your readers to contact us if they may know the location of those we were unable to contact.”

Those “missing classmates” include Derald Cochran, Paul Malm, Sheila Paradis, Rhoda Philbrook, Luther Searles, Leona Skidgel, Galen Skidgel and Billy Wilcox.

Charette wrote that organizers have set a goal of “100 percent attendance” at this gathering.

“Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products,” will be presented by award-winning Center for Investigative Reporting journalist Mark Schapiro at 7:15 tonight at the Maine Environmental Research Institute Ocean Institute, 55 Main St. in Blue Hill.

For members of Milbridge-Wyman Methodist Church, Alicia Woodward invites the public to a Pancake Breakfast 6-9 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Masonic Lodge on Kennedy Highway in Milbridge.

The cost of the meal of pancakes, sausage, muffins, baked beans, juice and coffee is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

“All proceeds will go towards fuel oil for the church,” Woodward wrote.

Then, that evening you are invited to attend a Hymn Sing at 7 p.m. at the church “at the head of the Wyman Road in Milbridge,” Woodward wrote.

Secretary Peg Robertson reports the Blue Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual Yard Sale at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the station. Donations are appreciated, with the exception of clothing.

Jackie Nicholson informs us the Hancock Woman’s Club annual chicken barbecue, featuring “a half-chicken fresh off the grill, a variety of homemade salads and desserts, rolls, and beverages,” is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Hancock Community Center on Route 1.

Admission is just $8, and you can eat inside or at the tables on the lawn. “There is no wait for seating,” Nicholson wrote.

She notes that this event “has become a welcome tradition for area residents and summer guests and is always a nice surprise for people driving by.”

Proceeds benefit the club’s scholarships and Santa Fund, and helps maintain its building for “area group functions,” she wrote.

Eastern Maine Medical Healthcare Charities Cure Kids Cancer project invites you the first-ever Chords for Cure Concert, featuring Dr. Ian Dickey and the Stone Doctors, who play “classic rock with an emphasis on the Rolling Stones,” according to the release.
