LEE – Penquis Child Development is closing the Penquis Head Start Center in Lee and one of the classrooms in the Penquis Head Start Center in Lincoln. The Penquis Head Start Policy Council approved the reductions on June 25.
A decrease in funding made it necessary to scale back services, said Jean Bridges, director of Penquis Child Development. “Reducing services is not something anyone wants. This decision was based on many factors and was not taken lightly by Penquis Child Development or by the Policy Council.”
Penquis is attempting to make the transition as smooth as possible for parents. Parents may place their children on the waiting list for the remaining classroom in Lincoln or contact the Penquis Child Care Resource Development Center at 973-3505 or 888-917-1100 for a list of other child care-preschool opportunities in the Lee and Lincoln areas.
