Ortiz hitless in rehab game with Dogs

PORTLAND – Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz went hitless Tuesday night in another rehab appearance with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.

Ortiz struck out looking in the first, reached on an error, scored in a five-run fourth inning and then grounded out twice. It was his fifth minor league game since he was sidelined on May 30 because of a partial tear of the sheath that surrounds the tendon in his left wrist.

“I feel good. I feel better everyday,” Ortiz said before the Connecticut Defenders defeated Portland 18-6.

The slugger is scheduled to make his third and final appearance for Portland on Wednesday. He is expected to return to the Red Sox on Friday for the beginning of a nine-game home series with New York, Los Angeles and Oakland.

“I want to go back home and start going back into my regular routine that I have being with the team and all that,” Ortiz said.
