PALMYRA – Police continued Wednesday to investigate an armed robbery that took place on Lang Hill Road in Palmyra shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi confirmed late Tuesday that a lone male entered the home and demanded money from a female victim, who was in the home alone.

Gottardi expanded that description Wednesday and said that the victim had provided an undisclosed amount of cash when threatened with a knife and that the woman was restrained with duct tape.

Gottardi would not confirm reports that the woman was told that if she did not hand over money, the robber was going to harm her grandchild who lived in a nearby town.

The woman was not injured, Gottardi said.

He described the robber as being around 5 feet, 7 inches tall, wearing dark clothes and a red bandana over his face.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted in the investigation by the Maine State Police and the Newport Police Department.

“This incident remains under investigation,” Gottardi said Wednesday and asked that anyone with information about the invasion contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department at 1-800-452-1933 or through the anonymous tip line at 474-0230.
