Fundraiser set for former Brewer High athlete

Friends and family are planning a Benefit Fundraiser for Bruce Thibodeau, 58, of Parsonsfield, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment as he fights cancer a second time.

Thibodeau is a 1969 Brewer High School graduate, and it is hoped many of his old friends and former football teammates will be able to attend the event and share memories of those good times with him.

Ben Dresser e-mailed that he and the Beecher Boys and Girls Hillbilly Band and Cloggers will be part of the event planned from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the East Orrington Congregational Church.

The benefit will be an evening of fellowship and celebration of Thibodeau’s life, and will feature various raffle items and refreshments after the performance by these delightful, local entertainers.

Admission is by donation.

Laurie McKinnis and Nancy Campbell remind fellow alumni that the East Corinth Academy-Central High School Annual Alumni Banquet begins with “visiting time” at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Corinth United Methodist Church.

The cost for the meal is $8, but members of the Class of 1958 will be admitted free.

Judy Folsom wants to make sure everyone knows the Piscataquis River Festival begins with breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Guilford United Methodist Church, and ends with a street dance, that evening.

During the day, mainly at the town’s recreation field, you will enjoy a variety of musical performances, plus the Ms. River Festival Pageant at noon.

Upper Union River Historical Society president Connee Jellison of Bar Harbor, and society members, invite you to its annual Open House at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Amherst town hall.

After a potluck luncheon, Jellison will conduct a brief business meeting. The program will offer attendees an “opportunity to seek help with their project, to ask questions concerning information they seek on a particular family or to share what materials they have added this year,” Jellison wrote.

Two casts of more than 50 people from Old Town to Blue Hill, ages 3-68, appear in performances of the Bucksport Community Theater and Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society’s production of “The Sound of Music.”

The show features 2 p.m. matinees Sunday, July 27, and Aug. 3, and evening performances at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bucksport Middle School, reports artistic director Sandi Blanchette of Orland, who is working with musical director Mark Neslusan.
