Fight in Bangor leads to knife-slashing

A man was cut with a knife when a fight Thursday night escalated, Bangor police Detective Sgt. Chip Hodges said Friday.

Shawn Cameron, 43, of Bangor was in his apartment with the 67-year-old male victim about 6 p.m. when the fight began. At one point Cameron apparently pulled a large knife, described as a “work knife” and used it to “cut across the left temple” of the victim, Hodges said.

The man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment, then released, Hodges said.

Cameron was charged with felony aggravated assault and taken to Penobscot County Jail. His first appearance is scheduled for Monday in 3rd District Court, so he will remain in jail over the weekend, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

A garage was burned to the ground in a fire early Friday on the West Old Town Road, according to Old Town Deputy Fire Chief Jim Lavoie.

The fire was reported about 8:30 a.m. When crews arrived, the structure was in flames, he said.

Firefighters were able to save a nearby home, but there was “some significant damage to the front” of the mobile home, Lavoie said. Firefighters had to remove some of the ceiling in the kitchen and living room to stop the fire from spreading.

Crews from Milford, Alton and Orono assisted Old Town. Firefighters left about 10:30 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
