Hampden, Steamboat, Bangor record victories

BANGOR – Day 2 of the American Legion Zone 1 baseball tournament took a topsy-turvy turn on Saturday, with fifth-ranked Hampden emerging as the only remaining unbeaten team and fourth-seeded Steamboat Petroleum of Waldo County fighting off elimination with an extra-inning victory over top-rated Brewer.

Just one team was eliminated from the six-team field in this double-elimination event, as No. 2 Bangor ousted No. 6 Penquis 6-2 in the day’s first game.

Steamboat Petroleum, which trailed 3-0 through four innings, rallied to edge Brewer 5-4 in 11 innings before Hampden surged to a 12-1 win over third-seeded Trenton in a game that ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
