Hancock church to hold fair and yard sale

Fair chairman David Wildes invites you to the Union Congregational Church of Hancock annual church fair and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the church, 1368 U.S. Highway 1, Hancock.

Included in the sale, which features “a huge variety” of used and handmade items, Wildes wrote, will be everything from jewelry to crafts, plants, and homemade foods.

“A beautiful, framed mirror, hand-painted by local artist Renata Moise, will be offered, for sale, through a silent auction, which will also feature other, special, one-of-a-kind items,” he said.

Coffee and homemade doughnuts can be purchased in the morning; with crab rolls, hot dogs and pies available throughout the day.

Proceeds will help support the church and community organizations it assists.

Mary Blackstone wrote the Ellsworth Garden Club will hold a program describing the history of the Woodlawn estate, by Woodlawn Museum executive director Joshua Campbell Torrance at 7 p.m. today in the River Room of Ellsworth Public Library on State Street.

The public is invited to attend, and also invited to arrive early for a walking tour of the Old Burial Ground located on State Street next to the First Congregational Church.

Lee Academy trustee and alumna Gail Mallett Rae returns to organize the Lee Academy Make a Difference Day beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the academy, reports Bob Potts.

Volunteers gather to “make a difference” at the Academy by doing everything from planting and cleaning to painting and brush removal.

Tools are provided, and a free barbecue is offered workers courtesy of academy chef Russ Brown.

When Jamie Kinghorn of Carmel celebrates her 25th birthday from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday Aug. 2, at the Carmel Grange on Route 2, her family invites you to join the celebration by bringing school supplies which would be welcomed by school officials in this area, according to her mother, Debbie Kinghorn.

Jamie, who has a variety of disabilities but loves attending Pine Tree Camp in Rome and Camp Capella in Dedham, would like everything from colored pencils to book bags to distribute to the schools.

Members of Dennys River Historical Society invite you to a yard sale party, rain or shine, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in the historic Lincoln House barn on Route 86 in Dennysville.

Proceeds benefit the continued restoration and improvement of the DRHS Academy Vestry Museum.

Franklin Historical Society president Dania Stager-Snow invites you to the FHS Garden Tour and Tea from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in Franklin.

Admission is $10 and includes the tea from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Historical Society building on Sullivan Road, Route 200, in East Sullivan.

Tickets are available from FHS members and friends or can be purchased the day of the tour at Galamander Park on the corner of Route 182 and Gristmill Road, and the historical society.

Sandy Stone invites you to the West Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department annual auction, with a preview at noon and auction at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the fire station on Swanville Road.

“We have lots of new items,” Stone said, “and luncheon items and refreshments will be available.”
