AKRON, Ohio – Houlton’s Lucas Grant captured a top-10 finish in the 71st All-American Soap Box Derby Saturday.

Grant lost in the fifth round to Zachary Placzek of Stanwood, Wash., to finish eighth overall in the Super Stock division.

Hayley Beitel of Tullahoma, Tenn., won the division.

Grant and Rebecca Botting of Bangor faced off in the second round with Grant winning with a time of 29.39 seconds.

Grant then won in the third and fourth rounds before falling in the fifth round.

Three other Mainers competed on Saturday, but all failed to make it out of the first round.

Nicholas Thomas of Bangor lost to Travis Turner of Buffalo, N.Y., in the Masters division.

In the Stock division, Sara Heath of Houlton and Bangor’s Rachael Graves both were eliminated after the first round.

Courtney Rayle of Washington won the Masters division. Johanna Barnowski of Akron Suburban, Ohio, was victorious in the Stock division. Brandon Feagan won the Rally Masters, Caitlin Smith won the Rally Super Stock and Megan Newcomer took the Rally Stock division.
