PORTLAND – Mainers who want to know how their drinking habits compare with those of others can find out by logging onto a new Web site.

The site, www.mainebac.org, allows drinkers to type in vital statistics such as age and weight and come up with a customized blood alcohol content chart and an analysis that shows risk of alcohol-related accident or injury. It also details the health and financial risks of a person’s drinking.

MaineBac – the “B-A-C” stands for “Brief Alcohol Check-up” – is based on an online program developed by counselors and psychologists at San Diego State University. This is the first time it has been used outside of a college setting.
