Police summon landlord in altercation

A tenant-landlord dispute over unfixed problems at a Union Street apartment, including a broken kitchen faucet, escalated Sunday morning to the point where the landlord arrived at the apartment carrying a bat and yelled at the tenant, according to the Bangor Police Department report.

Gary Thomas, 51, of Holden apparently used the bat to damage three slats on the porch railing before following the tenant, who ran into his apartment fearing injury, into the apartment at about 11:30 a.m. where Thomas “began striking the faucet with the baseball bat,” the report states.

Thomas admitted to arguing with his tenant and using the bat to break the faucet, but said he brought another faucet over to replace it. He was given a summons for criminal threatening by Officer Kevin MacLaren and will be in front of a judge in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Sept. 4.

Thomas also was advised to find someone else to fix the broken faucet. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Two teenagers were arrested late Sunday in Old Town after allegedly attacking a man, stealing his cell phone and running from officers, Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday.

The suspects, identified as Patrick Mitchell, 18, of Bradley and a 16-year-old male from Old Town, apparently asked a 43-year-old B&W Taxi employee for a cigarette at 10:40 p.m. and when his back was turned the teens attacked him, knocked him down and stole his mobile phone.

Officers found the victim with blood on his hands and face. Police found the two suspects on Perkins Avenue soon after and gave chase through a field near the middle school before catching them.

Mitchell was arrested for robbery, assault, refusing to submit to arrest and terrorizing and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. The juvenile was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and could face additional charges, Smart said. He was released to his parents. A 21-year-old male found injured on the ground Saturday night outside the Riverfront Pub in Old Town, reported to police that he had been attacked by five men, Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday.

The victim, who is listed with a University of Maine campus address, had a cut on his head and one on his face but was “fairly intoxicated and couldn’t give any details about who jumped him,” Smart said.
