OTISFIELD – Dozens of Seeds of Peace campers in Maine had a chance to hang out with some of the NBA’s top prospects, and it’s difficult to say who learned more.

Since 1993, more than 4,000 teenagers from four conflict zones around the world have attended the Seeds of Peace program in Otisfield, which has a goal of bringing teenagers together with a message of dialogue, reconciliation and understanding.

About 150 of them spent time Monday with basketball players including Derrick Rose, last month’s No. 1 overall draft pick by the Chicago Bulls.

Former Chicago Bulls star B.J. Armstrong says the camp and its Israeli and Palestinian campers left an impression. He says it’s good for the players to get out of their communities and “share and expose themselves to a whole other world, a new culture.”
