WALDOBORO – Madison McVicar doubled to knock in the tying run in the fifth inning and Kaylee Johnson followed with a two-run double to give Calais the lead and eventual 12-6 win over South Portland to claim the state championship in Little League All-Star softball for ages 9-10 Thursday.
South Portland won the first game 14-3 in four innings to force a second game.
In the championship game, McVicar hit two doubles and a single to lead Calais. Alyssa Pulk added three singles and two RBIs. Olivia Smith recorded 12 strikeouts.
Taylor Whaley hit a single and a first-inning two-run double for South Portland. Lydia Henderson hit an RBI single.
In the first game, Whaley had a triple and two singles with four RBIs to pace South Portland. Michelle Moreau hit an RBI triple. Abby Young had a two-run single and Paige Carter doubled.
Johnson led Calais with a single and an RBI double for Calais.
