ORONO – The University of Maine volleyball team received an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 season. One of 70 NCAA Division I teams to receive the award, Maine was the only one in America East to be honored.

The AVCA award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams displaying academic excellence by maintaining a 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 GPA on a 5.0 scale. Ten UM players were named to the 2007 AE Honor Roll for earning GPAs of 3.0 or better and seven were named to the AE Commissioner’s Academics Honor Roll for GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
