Mortgage firm president denies claims of fraud

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The president of a mortgage company that does business in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts admits paperwork mistakes but denies fraud.

New Hampshire banking officials accuse Mortgage Specialists Inc. of more than 60 violations, including forging signatures and destroying documents. And on Thursday, Massachusetts banking officials accused the company of unfair and deceptive business practices.

President Michael Gill told The New Hampshire Union Leader the problems concerned disclosure of information to the state, not cheating customers. He said the company will pay a fine.

Banking Commissioner Peter Hildreth said some of the allegations include photocopying signatures and moving them from one document to another.
