Eddington man indicted in murder attempt

BANGOR – The Eddington man accused of trying to kill his estranged wife and the man she was dating was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury on eight charges, including aggravated attempted murder.

The male victim, a local teacher and karate instructor, appears to have saved the life of Leigh Witmer, 36, who suffered defensive wounds to her forearms, according to court documents.

The male victim, a teacher, suffered 11 stab wounds to the back. Before both his lungs collapsed from his wounds, he managed to prevent Witmer from injuring Leigh Witmer more severely, according to police reports.
