SCARBOROUGH – One of Maine’s leading technology companies, Fairchild Semiconductor, plans to move its corporate headquarters from South Portland to a new building in Scarborough that’s still on the drawing board.

The developers of the Gateway at Scarborough project, which includes the new Cabela’s store at Haigis Parkway, have announced plans for the three-story, 90,000-square-foot office building across Payne Road.

Construction is set to begin this fall and be completed in a year.

The building will house more than 300 Fairchild employees who’ve been working in leased office space on Running Hill Road.

Most Fairchild employees in Maine work at the chip maker’s fabrication plant on Western Avenue in South Portland.
