Woodland man gets jail in two sex cases

CARIBOU – A Woodland man was sentenced late last month for a sex crime that he committed while he was out on bail for a previous sex crime.

Jonah Polichak, 26, was convicted in January on a charge of visual sexual aggression against a minor for exposing himself. That Class D charge stemmed from an incident in October 2006.

The conviction was handed down in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou, and Polichak’s bail was continued from the time of his arrest until a future sentencing date.

Police said conditions of Polichak’s bail included that he not be around children under age 18 and that he not use a computer.

Polichak was arrested again on June 6 after police found evidence he had committed a sex crime and had violated previous bail conditions.

Police executed a search warrant at his residence and seized evidence that again led to his being charged with visual sexual aggression against a minor.

The victim was between ages 12 and 14 at the time of the incident, according to a statement from the Caribou Police Department.

Further details of the incident were unavailable.

During his appearance in Superior Court in Caribou on July 31, Polichak was sentenced on the 2006 conviction to five years of incarceration with all but nine months suspended, and two years of probation.

He also pleaded guilty to the most recent charge and was sentenced to six months incarceration to be served concurrently with the original sentence.

Both cases were investigated by Officer Kevin St. Peter of the Caribou Police Department.
