WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Jersey scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and eliminate Maine District 3 in the Big League Softball Regional 2-1 Tuesday. Sam Besse recorded eight strikeouts and walked one for Maine.

Sam Besse recorded eight strikeouts and walked one for Maine.

Besse hit three singles and drove in the only run. Amy Singer and Kate Plowman each singled twice and Autumn Silke and Kacy Thibodeau-Harvey singled.

The Maine District 3 team was represented by players from Glenburn, Old Town, Corinth, Hampden, and Dixmont.

Cranston 13, Camden-Rockport 1

At Bristol, Conn., Chandler Crans hit his second home run in the U.S. East Regional and singled, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Camden-Rockport All-Stars from going winless in the tourney as Cranston, R.I., outhit Maine 14-3 to notch its first victory.

Camden committed five errors leading to seven unearned runs as Crans lasted three innings on the mound.

Camden-Rockport finishes its season 0-4 in regional tourney play and 8-4 overall.
