Give Hope campaign

HAMPDEN – It’s no surprise that Sherill Treworgy, Hampden resident and a designer for Home & Garden Party, jumped on the opportunity to give back to the community. As a designer for the company, it is Treworgy’s mission to offer local residents high-quality home d?cor and a top focus to make a difference in people’s lives.

So Treworgy was willing and proud to help the company raise $1 million for the American Cancer Society.

“I really care about my community and wanted to make some type of contribution that truly meant something. Therefore, I was delighted to take part in the company’s Give Hope campaign, which helped raise money to go towards cancer research and awareness,” Treworgy said. “I am thrilled to say that I was able to help Home & Garden Party reach the $1 million mark so that the American Cancer Society can continue the fight against cancer with all the efforts they do.”

Home & Garden Party created the Give Hope campaign in 2001 so that employees, designers and customers could help fight cancer and assist in patient support programs and research. Founders Penny and Steve Carlile began by pledging to match the first $50,000 raised by its designers.

During hosted, private parties where designers like Treworgy displayed Home & Garden Party products, guests were given the option to add a dollar or more to their orders or purchase special products with proceeds to be donated to ACS.

According to Treworgy, the company has always had a strong commitment to participating in charitable initiatives. In fact, it was named the nation’s leading corporate sponsor in the fight against colon cancer by the ACS.

“The $1 million mark was not the only accomplishment we wanted to reach. We also were very focused on spreading the word about cancer, especially colon cancer. Our mission was to help create an open dialogue about a subject that may be somewhat uncomfortable for many people to talk about,” said Steve Carlile.

The ACS estimates that some 108,070 new cases of colon cancer will be diagnosed in 2008. “That is an alarming statistic, but we thank Sherill and all of our committed designers who really put their front foot forward in making this campaign a reality and a success so that people can make the right steps in learning more about this type of cancer,” added Penny Carlile.

Home & Garden Party has donated more than $1 million for cancer research programs, cancer awareness and education, college scholarships for cancer victims, transportation and Hurricane Katrina relief.
