PORTLAND – The Coast Guard said a mother and three children aboard a Portsmouth, N.H.-based sailboat were escorted to safety after reporting the boat was taking on water off the Maine coast.

The woman sailing the Leona Pearl radioed the Coast Guard and said she had an accident a few days ago that may have punctured the hull.

There were no injuries before Tuesday’s rescue 12 miles southwest of Cape Small.

The Coast Guard patrol boat Flyingfish from Boston was on patrol in the area and went to the scene. The Maine Marine Patrol and a 47-foot rescue boat crew from the Coast Guard Station in South Portland assisted.
