Domestic violence forum planned at Womancare in Dover-Foxcroft

DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Maine Department of Public Safety in conjunction with Womancare is sponsoring a community forum to discuss the impact of domestic violence in Maine communities. It will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the Penquis office, 50 North Main St.

As a result of a resolve passed by the Maine Legislature, the department is undertaking a comprehensive review of the measures in place to support and protect victims.

The purpose of this forum is to provide an opportunity for public comment on the impact of domestic violence: what is working, what can be improved to assist victims and what programs are missing.

All members of the community are invited to attend and offer concerns and ideas for creating safer homes and communities in the Penquis region.

Of special interest is hearing from victim-survivors and their friends and family members, as well as members of the clergy, health care providers, the law enforcement community, mental health and social service providers, municipal and state government representatives, and local educators.
