Rod and Gun Club

BUCKSPORT – The Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club invites the public to an open house 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the clubhouse, 359 Bucksmills Road.

The event will feature gun displays, raffle, door prizes, fly fishing demonstrations, fly tying, trapping displays, and a turkey calling demonstration. Club members will give information about rifle and archery ranges, hunter safety programs, the annual fishing derby, the club library, charities and membership.

Children’s events, weather permitting, will be a supervised BB shoot, archery shoot and a fly casting contest.

Crabmeat rolls and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

Admission and activities at the open house are free.

Field hockey registration

GLENBURN – Field Hockey registration and practice for Glenburn girls in the fifth through eighth grades is set for 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18. For more information, call Carey Besse at 945-3119.

MMRF Race for Research

BANGOR – Hope Lutheran Church will host the second MMRF Race for Research on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Paul Bunyan Park on Main Street.

The 5K walk and run will be timed by the Bangor Running Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.

Call Becky at 356-0425 for information about registration forms. Proceeds benefit research for multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer.

As part of the event, raffle tickets may be purchased for an Otter sport craft donated by Old Town Canoe and Johnson Outdoors. A photography package by Tracy Green Photography also will be awarded.

Individual registration fee is $25 for age 10 and up. Families of four may register for $60.

The annual Beach to Beacon 10K road race, sponsored by TD Banknorth, was held Saturday in Cape Elizabeth and South Portland with 5,248 people completing the race.
