AUGUSTA – Gov. John Baldacci says government tax agencies and private service groups will help thousands of Mainers who have not claimed their economic stimulus checks to get their money.
Baldacci says as many as 31,000 economic stimulus checks, worth $300 or more per person, are designated for Mainers but have not yet been claimed.
Maine residents who are not required to file tax returns but had at least $3,000 in income did not receive the economic stimulus checks automatically. Baldacci says those individuals must file 1040A tax forms to claim the stimulus checks.
The governor says federal and state revenue agencies, AARP Maine and local Area Agencies on Aging will assist Maine people who haven’t received their checks.
