BANGOR – A family was left homeless after a fire at their West Street home Wednesday night.
“The house is completely gone. It’s completely gutted,” Assistant Fire Chief Vance Tripp said Thursday.
State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators were at the scene in an attempt to determine the cause of the blaze that destroyed the 21/2-story home.
Tripp said the fire began in the first-floor kitchen.
No one was injured, but an onlooker was taken to the hospital for blood pressure problems, Tripp said.
The house was occupied by a father and his two daughters, all of whom had escaped without injury before the Fire Department arrived, Tripp said.
“When we showed up last night the fire was free-burning,” he said. “It was coming right out the second-story windows.”
The fire damaged no nearby properties, but did scorch a small shed, Tripp said.
Fire crews got the call around 9:30 p.m. and the majority of firefighters returned to their station at 2 a.m.
“We had an engine crew that stayed there all night to cover the hot spots,” Tripp said. “There was a number of hot spots that they had to turn over all night long.”
