MOUNT DESERT – The Acadia Disposal District will hold its annual household hazardous-waste collection 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Mount Desert Island Regional High School.
Residents from sponsoring communities will be able to dispose of a limited amount of household hazardous materials at no cost.
Materials that will be accepted include: household cleaners, oil-based paint, used motor oil, pesticides, herbicides and photo chemicals as well as fluorescent light bulbs, rechargeable batteries, mercury thermometers, computer monitors and TVs.
The collection will serve: Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton and Mount Desert.
People are required to preregister and receive a permit from their town office. Bar Harbor residents must register at the Highway Division garage.
